After a registration period began two days ago, the highly anticipated Windows 10-based update for Xbox One will begin to arrive on consoles later today, starting with select members of the Xbox One Preview Program.
The selection process will be based on users who have contributed most to the program, by answering surveys, and submitting a variety of feedback. More Preview testers will be given access to the new dashboard over the coming weeks, assuming they have opted-in, through the Xbox Preview Dashboard app.
The testing has begun two months ahead of the update"s scheduled public release, to help eliminate bugs. Feedback from those using the new Xbox One experience over the coming weeks will be used to finely tune this redesign, before a rollout to other users. The new UX is still work-in-progress, and will continue to be improved and polished for its launch this November.
The update aims to fix many major criticisms of the Xbox One, streamlining the user experience, and reducing load times drastically. The update has been developed from the Windows 10 kernel, and popular features from Windows 10, such as Cortana and Microsoft Edge, will be arriving on the console, building on the Universal eco-system between Microsoft"s devices and services. Additional experiences, such as Xbox One to PC game streaming, and Xbox 360 backwards compatibility will also be a major focus, adding to the collection of new features the console has gained since launch.
