Late on Friday, Microsoft announced that the Xbox One had sold over 1 million units in its first 24 hours after launch. The company also claimed, "Xbox One is now sold out at most retailers. We are working to replenish stock as fast as possible to meet the unprecedented demand from our customers."
While that may be true in other parts of the U.S. and the other 12 markets that were a part of the Xbox One launch, it would appear that New York City still has plenty of Microsoft"s consoles to go around. DualShockers posted up images of Xbox One boxes that are waiting to be bought at the large Toys "R" Us location in Times Square this past weekend, where a store clerk claimed there were "easily a few hundred" units available for purchase.
The same report claims that the Best Buy store just a few blocks away also had lots of Xbox One consoles for sale, and even showed pictures of what looks like a large number of the Day One Edition that are siting on top of the store"s gaming shelves. Both locations said that they did not have any PlayStation 4 units for sale.
So does this mean that Microsoft"s next console isn"t selling as well as they company has claimed? That may be too early to say at this point. It"s possible that NYC and other large cities simply got more units shipped to them compared to what Microsoft shipped to the rest of the country.
