Next Microsoft Patch Tuesday includes IE 9 fix

This coming Tuesday, Microsoft is scheduled to release its latest monthly patches and security updates for various products. Its official security bulletin doesn"t have any details of what is contained in the patches, other than there will be nine of them and that three will be of a critical nature.

The patches will be released for software such as Windows, SharePoint, Office, Office for Mac, and Internet Explorer 9. It"s the last one that"s perhaps the most interesting. PCWorld.com reports that Microsoft just released a patch for IE 9 in June and that the company usually releases IE patches every two months. Andrew Storms, director of security operations for nCircle, says of the IE 9 patch, "It"s pretty safe to say this bulletin will patch something pretty serious."

There"s no word yet if "Patch Tuesday" will also contain a fix for a flaw that has been discovered in the Microsoft XML Core Services. While Microsoft did release a temporary patch, some security analysts are waiting to see if there will be a permanent fix for the issue next week.

The full details of the fixes will be revealed by Microsoft when the actual patches are released, but it"s safe to say that with three labeled as critical, this is a must download for users of Windows and IE 9.
