Nextbit and Paranoid Android (PA) have come together to help expedite the process of bringing NextbitOS and PA’s ROM up to Android N for Nextbit’s Robin smartphone. Nextbit said that it had worked closely with PA, “providing kernel source code and system images” to help them build and test their custom ROM.
The Paranoid Android team, commenting on the collaboration, said:
“It’s very refreshing to see an OEM that cares about the community. Some just ship devices to developers, but you guys have been there every step of the way to see how you can help and test our builds.”
By exchanging ideas, code, and resources, both Nextbit and Paranoid Android were able to deal with issues more quickly and get their respective ROMs up to Nougat. Before the two began working together, Nextbit had already started on porting Nougat to Robin, but it was still facing some hurdles. By teaming up with the Paranoid Android team it, these challenges were overcome.
Nextbit Chief Technology Officer, Mike Chan, said:
“They [PA] are a talented group of developers and we’re excited to be working with them to make sure Robin run even better whether you’re running NextbitOS, or Paranoid Android.”
In its announcement, Nextbit said that the teamwork had sped things along and that the Nextbit Nougat beta is ready for its “eager community of testers.”
