In some ways, owners of Google"s Nexus 6 should probably be grateful that they"re still getting updates from the company. After all, Google"s guaranteed two-year window for OS updates officially ended for the device in October. But while most will surely appreciate the fact that the handset is still getting new Android versions, a few of them are no doubt rolling their eyes after receiving the latest update.
As Android Police reports, a growing number of people who have installed the new Android 7.1.1 update on their Nexus 6 handsets have reported the same issue: when on speakerphone, the person at the other end of the call is unable to properly hear the device"s owner. Users report that those with whom they"re trying to talk are hearing echoes, "squealing" or other unpleasant noises over the line that make it impossible to conduct a conversation in speakerphone mode.
Some owners said on Google"s forums that rolling back to Android 7.0 resolved the problem, and described the same issue recurring if they then upgraded to Android 7.1.1. Google has acknowledged the issue and said that it"s looking into it.
On top of that problem, Nexus 6 owners have also faced lengthy waits for the most recent updates. After Google released Android 7.0 Nougat to many of its Nexus devices on August 22, it didn"t reach the Nexus 6 until early October. And after its Android 7.1.1 rollout began on December 6, a "last-minute bug" delayed its release to the Nexus 6 for a month.
