Rumors of a Nexus tablet have been pretty consistent this year, and the strongest leads we’ve had to the device’s existence ahead of Google’s I/O 2012 conference is the device exterior image we reported earlier and the fact Digitimes has just reported Quanta Computer is Google and ASUS"s ODM.
Quanta Computer should be shipping around 12-15 million tablet PCs this year. As a result, it will make the company the largest ODM maker of non-iPad tablet PCs in 2012. More interestingly, included in these shipping numbers is 3 million of the 12-15 million are Nexus 7 units. It was reported that Quanta will undertake exclusive ODM production of Nexus, a 7-inch tablet PC jointly developed by Google and Asustek Computer and will be unveiled at Google I/O 2012 conference during June 27-29.
Of course, additionally the accidental outings of the device do add up and almost confirms the possibility that Google is planning to launch the Nexus 7 tablet, but now that the ODM itself has stepped forward and confirmed the devices existence, I think we can all patiently until the device is unveiled at the I/O conference.
The Google Nexus 7 tablet, from what we can understand is a 7-inch tablet, powered by the Tegra 3 chipset and clocked at 1.3Ghz - with a 1280 x 800 resolution and will cost from as little as $199, but we look forward to Google"s I/O conference to find out more.
