Nexus S phones getting Android 4.0 update starting today

The Galaxy Nexus may be the first smartphone that will have Android 4.0 installed out of the box but what all those Android 2.2 and 2.3-based phones that are already out in the market. Many, if not most, of them will likely get the Ice Cream Sandwich update. The first such device to officially get its Android 4.0 upgrade is none other than the Nexus S.

Google has announced via its Google Nexus Twitter page, "We"re rolling out Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich, to GSM/UMTS Nexus S devices over the coming month, starting today." It also offers up a link to a page on the official Android web site where users of Android 2.3 based phones can be aware of the many changes that have been made for the Android 4.0 update.

Since the Nexus S smartphone, made by Samsung, was the first such phone that had Android 2.3 installed out of the box when it was released just over a year ago, it"s fitting that it is the first phone to get the Android 4.0 software upgrade. You can expect announcements of even more Android 2.2 and 2.3 smartphones and devices, along with the 3.1 tablet products, to get the 4.0 upgrade in the coming weeks and months.
