Nintendo 3DS may be released in October

Unspecified U.K. industry sources have revealed that Nintendo is preparing to release the anticipated 3DS portable console sometime in October. CVG is reporting an announcement of the release date will be made at E3 in mid-June.

The October release date has not been confirmed by any other sources but it would allow sales a full two months leading up to Christmas. The release of the new handheld console has previously been reported to be by March 2011, 6 months after the expected October release.

The 3DS will allow for 3D gaming capabilities without the need for special 3D glasses, an almost necessity for portable gaming. It will also be backwards compatible allowing current users of the DS to continue playing their currently owned games on the new portable device.

Little details have been given about the new version of the widely successful DS franchise, but it is likely it will have better graphics and perhaps even some form of motion sensing.
