Nintendo held yet another presentation dedicated to indie games today, and it showcased a high number of titles making their way to the Switch. The long list includes new titles as well as ports of older ones, including well-known titles such as Bastion and Wasteland 2: Director"s Cut.
The titles mentioned in the presentation include releases planned for this year as well as next year. Here"s what you can expect before the year is out:
- Hyper Light Drifter Special Edition (trailer), a port of the 2016 action RPG with new weapons and a new outfit, coming September 6
- Towerfall (trailer), a multiplayer fighting game with a new six-player mode, including the Dark World and Ascension expansions, as well as a new character from indie title Celeste. Launches on September 27.
- Treasure Stack (trailer), a combination of Tetris-style puzzle games and platforms. Includes support for local and online multi-player against users on other platforms and launches this winter.
- Zarvot (trailer), an adventure game in which you control cubes making their way through nine game worlds to cheer up your friend. It also includes five different multiplayer modes to play locally. The game launches sometime in October.
- Levelhead (trailer), a title where players create their own platforming levels to share with the online community. It"s also possible to play through levels with friends through local multiplayer. Launches in November.
- Bullet Age (trailer), a co-operative action game that mixes platforming and combat in which players have to save the world from mutant monsters. The game is a console exclusive on the Nintendo Switch and launches in November.
The company also quickly showed off a number of other titles coming to the platform during this year, without going into much detail, seeing as many of the games are fairly popular already. Here"s what else is coming in the next few months:
- Desert Child, a racing RPG title, launches in December
- Wasteland 2: Director"s Cut launches on September 13
- Bastion (trailer) also launches on September 13
- The Messenger launches this week on August 30
- Undertale launches on September 18
- Jackbox Party Pack 5 launches in October
- Transistor (trailer) launches in November
- Dragon: Marked for Death (trailer) launches on December 13
- Light Fingers (trailer) launches on September 20
- Superbrothers: Sword and Sorcery EP launches in October
Much like it did last week, Nintendo is dropping a new title today as well. Into the Breach is a turn-based strategy game in which you control robot characters to take down alien enemies. You can watch the trailer below:
We also got a look at some titles coming in early 2019, including the strangely-named Untitled Goose Game, which was announced late last year. In this title, you play as a goose whose only purpose is to generally annoy people around town in various ways, and you can check out the latest trailer here. Here"s what else is coming next year:
- Mineko"s Night Market (trailer), a cat-filled game about a girl who moves to a new town and has to craft items to make money at the night market while also learning about a mysterious cat called Abe, who the townspeople believe to be mythical. The is heading to the Nintendo Switch as a temporary exclusive.
- Samurai Gunn 2 (trailer), a retro-style co-operative multiplayer game in which the player(s) have to fight for the fate of their city as old spirits are coming back to life. It also features a competitive battle mode for up to four players. There"s even a comic book included as part of the game, for some reason.
- The World Next Door (trailer), a story-driven game featuring a girl trapped in a parallel world. To get through the game, you"ll have to defeat enemies in real-time puzzle battles where you have to activate runes to cast spells. These battles can also be played in a 1v1 multiplayer mode.
- King of the Hat (trailer), a simplified multiplayer fighting game played with just two buttons and featuring a number of unique characters, such as a fat cat and a washing machine. It can be played both locally and online.
Nintendo continues to make a strong push for indie games on its latest console, and it seems to be paying off, as many more titles are making their way to the Switch. As part of those efforts, there"s now a new channel in the News section of the console just for news related to indie games, so users can more easily stay informed of all the announcements.
We included links to the provided trailers for each game above, but not every title has received a separate trailer. If you"d like, you can watch the whole presentation here.
