Nintendo brings more retro games to the Switch, including Donkey Kong Country

Since introducing Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) games on Nintendo Switch Online, the cadence of new retro releases on the service has slowed down significantly. Thankfully, Nintendo is picking up the pace somewhat with three new titles arriving next week, two months after the last batch was announced.

There"s a major addition this time around - the critically-acclaimed Donkey Kong Country for the SNES will be making its way to the service. Originally developed by Rare, Donkey Kong Country is a 2D side-scrolling platform game, and it got two sequels on the SNES, though those aren"t being released on the Switch Online service just yet. The franchise was brought back to life in recent years with Donkey Kong Country Returns on the Wii, followed by Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, a Wii U game that"s also available on the Switch.

Three more titles will be added to the #NES & #SNES#NintendoSwitchOnline collection on 7/15, including #DonkeyKong Country!

Aside from Donkey Kong Country, there"s another new SNES game in the form of Natsume Championship Wrestling, a fighting game. Nintendo has re-released the game a couple of times on Virtual Console on the Wii and Wii U, but this is another chance to try it out. Finally, there"s a new NES game, The Immortal, an action-adventure fantasy title originally developed for Apple IIGS systems.

All of the titles will arrive in one week, on July 15. You"ll need to updates the apps containing the NES and SNES libraries to see the new games when they launch.
