Nintendo is trying to capitalize on Fortnite"s popularity with a new bundle announced today. Starting on October 5, you"ll be able to buy a Nintendo Switch bundle focused on the battle royale title. Of course, it"s no secret that the game is free-to-play, so there are some other rewards for players who get this bundle.
If you buy the special edition of the console, you"ll get everything that"s normally included in the box, the game, plus the special Double Helix bundle - which includes an outfit, glider, back bling, and pickaxe - as well as 1,000 V-bucks to spend on season passes or other in-game items.
It would have been interesting to see Nintendo offer some sort of exclusive skin, similar to what Samsung did with the Galaxy Note9, but it"s a freebie nonetheless. The new packaging will retail for the same price as the regular Switch package, so Fortnite fans can at least get some goodies with spending any additional money. The bundle will launch in North America and Europe on the same date.
If you"re concerned about the ability to play a free-to-play title now that the Nintendo Switch Online service is going to be paid, you can rest easy. Nintendo"s support page says that Fortnite won"t require you to subscribe to the service in order to play online. In fact, it"s been previously suggested that many free-to-play games won"t require you to pay for the online service in order to continue working as usual.
