Nintendo of America launches loyalty program

Nintendo of America launches a customer loyalty program similar to that already enjoyed or endured by Nintendo fans in Europe.

Nintendo of America has today launched a customer loyalty program on its recently redesigned Nintendo.com Web site. The three-tiered program aims to reward Nintendo fans who register and provide feedback on their game purchases by offering them exclusive news, cheat codes, and special promotions. "Nintendo players around the world exhibit a level of dedication and loyalty that is unmatched, and the updated Web site and our new customer loyalty program focus on our greatest assets--our fans," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America"s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "As an extension of our "who are you?" campaign, the new Nintendo.com Web site lets players explore a community of emotions and personalities, and allows our consumers to share their passion for video games."

The first free reward on offer is The Legend of Zelda Collector"s Edition disc, which can be obtained by players who take the time to register their GameCube console and two of Nintendo"s holiday titles on the site. Nintendo of Europe recently came under fire from irate Zelda fans when it offered a similar promotion through its well-established Stars scheme, but allowed only 1,000 copies for the whole of the UK and Ireland. The discs sold out in minutes despite costing a hefty 4,500 stars--the equivalent of registering a GameCube console, a GBA SP, and no less than 14 Nintendo titles.
