Nintendo online service confirmed to launch in September

Nintendo has confirmed on its official Twitter account that its premium online service will launch in September. Last June, Nintendo priced the online service and announced it would be launched sometime in 2018, although no concrete date was given. Currently, gamers are able to play online multiplayer in games like Splatoon 2 for free, although this will change when the premium service goes live.

Customers will be given the option of buying a subscription to the premium service on either a monthly, quarterly, or yearly basis at $3.99, $7.99, or $19.99, respectively. Similar to PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold, Nintendo"s online service will offer a rotating library of classic Nintendo games that will be playable as long your subscription is active.

Another perk offered will be special discounts for games on the Nintendo eShop. Unfortunately, online voice chat will still be handled by the dedicated voice app for Android and iOS. It will be interesting to see whether the classic games offered by Nintendo as part of the premium online service will tie in with the release of the virtual console on the Switch, support of which was known to be delayed till sometime after the launch of the console, though no date has been confirmed yet.
