Nintendo reboots Metroid Prime 4 development, says the game wasn't up to its standards

While Nintendo fans have been clamoring for a new Nintendo Direct for a couple of weeks, it seems the firm has less desirable news. In a new YouTube video, Shinya Takahashi, head of development at Nintendo, announced that Metroid Prime 4 will be arriving later than it was originally meant to.

Metroid Prime 4 was originally announced at E3 2017, and it was clear back then that the title was very early in its development, as only the logo and title were revealed. In the year and a half since then, no more information was made available, which may have left many fans eagerly waiting.

In the video posted today, Takahashi explains that the way the progress developed since the announcement wasn"t living up to the company"s standards for a Metroid Prime sequel and that the development is in a challenging situation as of now. As such, the team "decided to reexamine the development structure itself and change it".

Specifically, Nintendo seems to recognize that it wasn"t able to deliver a proper sequel by itself. As such, producer Kensuke Tanabe will be working with Retro Studios, the American development team that worked on the first three titles in the Metroid Prime series. Unfortunately, this means that development will have to be completely restarted and that the game will take longer to make its way to fans.

While the news is likely to upset many fans, it may be for the better that Nintendo acknowledges its shortcomings and is willing to hand over development to a different team. It will take some time for the company to share more information about the game, but hopefully, this means that Metroid Prime 4 will meet the expectation of the series" fans.
