Although the Nintendo Switch won"t offer a huge library of games on launch, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is probably one of the most anticipated titles that will be available on launch day. Some of the top brass of the Breath of the Wild development team were in attendance at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco and discussed how they started with a 2D prototype of the game.
Although Breath of the Wild is a 3D title, the team started with a 2D version of the game and focused on implementing the core elements of the title that relied on physics and "chemistry". While the image above looks like something you"d find on the NES, it was actually a 3D model that was "flattened" as you can see from the image below. By starting with a 2D prototype, developers could focus on the important elements of the game, rather than relying on its graphics.
The Nintendo Switch and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be available starting on March 3. The console will be available for $299.99, while Zelda will be available in a standard edition for $59.99, special edition for $99.99, and a "Master" edition for $129.99.
