It seems like every few months we read about a new solution for controlling gadgets and computers via the movements of a person"s hands or fingers. This week, a company called Nod announced the latest such product, also called Nod, that has a different take on the motion gesture technology movement.
The center of their idea is a ring-like gadget that is worn on a person"s index finger. It connects to a supported device via Bluetooth and Nod claims that the ring can then control those products with just a wave of the finger. In the company"s demo video it shows a user moving his finger with the Nod ring to control a Netflix app on a Android-based smart TV. It even shows the Nod being used in a quick game of Halo.
The Nod ring will come in 12 different sizes when it is released and the company says it supports Windows, OS X, Android, iOS and more. The company is currently taking pre-orders for the device for $149 and it"s scheduled to start shipping sometime this fall. We should then see if Nod is a true competitor to Microsoft"s Kinect or if it will fall short of expectations like the Leap device did in 2013.
