Nokia 2 to get Android 8.1 update with Android Go enhancements

Earlier this year, HMD Global announced that all Nokia smartphones will be updated to Android Oreo by the end of 2017. The company has already started rolling out Oreo to the Nokia 8, with the update on track for release on more of its devices, including the entry-level Nokia 2. The handset was released in October carrying a $99 price tag. It ships with Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box, but is set to get 8.1 Oreo in the near future.

Recently, the company"s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas confirmed on Twitter that the budget hanset will be updated to Android 8.1 directly. In addition, the update will also integrate Android Go"s "memory management improvements" to boost the performance of the unitt.

Hi! It will receive Android Oreo. 1GB RAM devices will be supported on 8.1 release where many of the Android Go memory management improvements will be integrated. Nokia 2 performance will only get better over time!

The Android Go program was announced by Google in May at its I/O conference. It aims to bring a lightweight version of Android Oreo to entry-level handsets with 512MB or 1GB of RAM, optimizing app behaviour and memory usage.

No details have been shared at this time regarding update availability.
