Nokia 5.1 Plus and 6.1 Plus launched in India, likely going global soon

HMD Global launched the Nokia X5 and X6 in China recently, and now the company has expanded the availability of these smartphones to India under the Nokia 5.1 Plus and 6.1 Plus names.

Back when the Nokia X6 was launched, fans of the Nokia brand demanded HMD Global to release the phone in India and other markets. This led the company"s Chief Product Officer, Juho Sarvikas to conduct a poll on Twitter which had an overwhelming response and a global variant of the device called the Nokia 6.1 Plus was announced. Now, the Finnish startup has launched the device in India, along with the Nokia 5.1 Plus.

The hardware specifications of the devices are as follows:

  • 4GB of RAM
  • 64GB of storage
  • Dual rear camera with 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel shooters
  • 16-megapixel front-facing camera
  • 3060 mAh battery

Nokia 5.1 Plus

Both the devices are part of the Android One program, and HMD Global is expecting to push Android Pie to the Nokia 6.1 Plus by the end of September. The company hasn"t disclosed the pricing of the Nokia 5.1 Plus yet. However, the slightly higher end 6.1 Plus will be sold for ₹15,999 ($229) through Flipkart.com and Nokia"s online store starting from 30th August. The 5.1 Plus is expected to be sold next month as well.

A report published by GSMArena earlier today has revealed that the Nokia 5.1 Plus could be headed to European markets soon as it was spotted on the localized Nokia websites in Austria, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, and Ukraine. Although there is no mention of the Nokia 6.1 Plus, it could also be launching in more markets in the near future.
