Earlier this week, Google officially announced Android Pie, version 9.0 of the operating system, and immediately began rolling out the update to its Pixel devices. In the blog post, Google said that devices included in the beta program would be receiving the update before the end of fall of this year.
Essential swiftly followed up with its own official release of Android Pie for the Essential Phone on the same day, and it now looks like HMD Global might be the next one to join the fray. Juho Sarvikos, the company"s Chief Product Officer, took to Twitter to announce the fourth and last beta build of the next version of Android before the official release.
It"s likely that this build is based on the final release from Google, but the Finnish firm may want to ensure everything is working properly on their own devices before making it generally available. With that being said, the new build finally includes supports for gestures, which have been a part of the beta program for a while.
HMD Global has had a good track record for Android updates on their devices. Our own Nokia 5 (2017) just received the August security patch today, despite being a mid-range device that"s over one year old. Hopefully, Android Pie will roll out quickly to other Nokia phones as well, and not just the 7 Plus.
