Nokia 808 PureView to go on sale in US for $699

After teasing us over the weekend, followed by a post on Nokia"s US website on Monday, Nokia has finally announced that the 808 PureView smartphone will indeed go on sale for US customers. In a post on their official blog site, Nokia said that US citizens will be able to purchase an unlocked version of the 808 PureView for $699.

The smartphone will work with a SIM card for AT&T as well as T-Mobile. However, users will only be able to get the fastest speeds from the AT&T network; the 808 PureView will have just 2G level speeds on the T-Mobile network.

In its blog post, Nokia confirmed, "Elements of Nokia’s PureView technology will be integrated into future Windows Phones devices." Hopefully that means that when Windows Phone 8 comes out later this year, we will see a PureView-style product from Nokia running under that OS insidead of Symbian/Nokia Bell.

Pre-orders for the 808 PureView will be available on Amazon.com sometime later this week but there"s no word yet on a ship date for the US market. The UK version of Amazon has already announced it will ship the phone to its citizens on June 30th for the price of £499.98.
