Nokia has no plans to move its main headquarters from Finland to the United States. Reuters reports that the smartphone company"s CEO Stephen Elop went on a TV network in Finland to firmly state that the company was staying put in its current location in the Helsinki suburb of Espoo. He stated, "As long as I am the CEO the headquarters is in Espoo. That"s our home, our sense of belonging."
Nokia has been cutting a lot of jobs since Elop started as the first non-Finland born CEO of the company in September 2010. Layoffs that will affect a total of 7,500 employees have already been ordered by the company which will be completed by the end of 2012. It"s possible that the large layoffs might have been the reason for the new rumors.
Nokia has moved its main US office from White Plains, New York over to Sunnyvale, California, most likely due to the fact that Nokia wanted to be closer to Silicon Valley. However, there continue to be rumors that Microsoft, which teamed up with Nokia to release the Windows Phone-based Lumia 800 and Lumia 710 smartphones, will acquire Nokia"s phone unit at some point.
