Verizon Wireless has announced that it will be selling the Nokia Lumia Icon Windows Phone from February 20th for $199 on a 2-year plan. You can pre-order today in black or white and, if purchased before March 16th, Nokia will even throw in a wireless charger for free.
The star feature of the new phone is the high-end camera that can record 1080p video and 20-megapixel stills. The lens is made by ZEISS and supports optical image stabilisation to deliver sharp, shake-free footage even at high zoom ratios. The phone has also been optimized for use in video recording as it has been fitted with four high performance microphones to pick up as much of the ambient audio as possible and is fitted with a new feature designed to minimise distracting background noise whilst maintaining the vibrancy of the subject audio source; this is called Nokia Rich Recording.
The Nokia Lumia Icon, or 929, has a 5-inch HD display and 2.2GHz quad-core processor with a 20-megapixel, 1080p camera
The Icon is equipped with a 5-inch 1080p HD display and a quad-core 2.2GHz processor and it is the first Windows Phone with a quad-core processor to be sold on Verizon; the phone also has 2Gb of RAM.
The phone will come pre-installed with Nokia"s latest Windows Phone update, Lumia Black. This features Nokia"s popular suite of photo and video apps including Nokia Camera, Refocus, Storyteller and Video Director, all of which will no doubt make very good use of the Icon"s impressive camera.
The handset has a 2420mAh battery which would normally be quite impressive but it is unknown as to how long it will be able to power a 5-inch screen and quad-core processor for.
The Nokia Lumia Icon is available for pre-order from Microsoft and Verizon Wireless stores now for delivery from February 20th and is formally known as the Lumia 929.
