In February, Nokia launched its expanded Nokia Music+ service for Lumia smartphone owners in the US, and has since expanded that service to other countries. It offers owners of that Windows Phone smartphone family an unlimited streaming music service for $4 a month.
Today, Nokia launched the Nokia Music app for Windows 8 and Windows RT PCs in the Windows Store. While the app offers a free trial for its Nokia Music+ service, you will still need to buy a Lumia smartphone and sign up for the service in order to use Nokia Music+ full time from the Windows 8 app. The app can also be used to play music from the personal song collection of any Windows 8 user, with the app description stating, "Play and queue your own music and we"ll give you all the same great discovery and rich artist information."
Like the Windows Phone 8-based app, the Windows 8/RT version allows users who have a Nokia Music+ subscription to play and download from a library of 20 million tracks. It also has hundreds of playlists created by Nokia that cover tons of music genres, or you can create your own mix lists. The Windows 8 Live Tile for the app will show which music artist is currently playing. You can also send what the app is playing wirelessly to "many smart TVs or DLNA-enabled devices."
My Nokia Blog reports that the app is only available in the US, UK, Ireland and Australia but will expand to all of the countries that are served by Nokia Music+ in the coming weeks.
