Even as Nokia enters the Android smartphone race with its Nokia X family, the company"s primary focus is to support Windows Phone and Windows 8 developers. Today, Nokia announced the release of its newest Imaging SDK, along with a contest to help promote it with an unusual grand prize.
Version 1.1 of the Nokia Imaging SDK is detailed on the company"s developer website. It includes full support for both the x86 and RT versions of Windows 8.1. That means developers can create apps for both Windows Phone and Windows 8.1 without having to change any of their code due to the Imaging SDK. The new version adds some extra filter effects such as lens blur, one that simulates HDR and more.
Nokia is asking developers to submit their best Windows Phone apps that use the new Imaging SDK to their Imagin8 website. Nokia will pick the three best apps, with the grand prize winner getting a trip to Cape Canaveral, Florida to participate in what the company is calling a "zero gravity" experience. We don"t think the winner is being shot into space; it"s far more likely he or she will be going on a plane that will be making parabolic dives to simulate zero-g.
The grand prize winner will also get two Nokia Lumia phones of their choice and more. The two runners-up will each get a Nokia Lumia 1520.
