Nokia"s annual press event is Nokia World, where it usually makes its biggest announcements of the year. In 2011, the event was held in London where the company officially showed off its Windows Phone-based Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 smartphones for the first time.
This week, Nokia revealed the dates and the city for Nokia World 2012. This year, the event will be held on September 25-26, about a month earlier than the 2011 event. Furthermore, the 2012 edition of Nokia World will be held in Helsinki, Finland at the Helsinki Exhibition and Convention Center.
The location is significant because it will be the first time since Nokia World started in 2006 that the show will be held in Nokia"s home country. The event"s web site is now live but it"s pretty bare bones at the moment in terms of content.
The timing of Nokia World 2012 is interesting as well. The company will almost certainly be showing off new smartphones that will be based on Windows Phone 8, code name Apollo. You can bet that those devices will be front and center at the event and you can also assume Microsoft will be making some announcements of its own at Nokia World.
