Nokia's Android phone might be called Nokia X

We"ve been reporting on the rumors that Nokia has been working on an Android smartphone, but with its own UI, for some time now. Up until this week, the media reports have used the name "Normandy" for the phone, which is supposed to be the internal code name for the device at Nokia.

The twitter account @evleaks has been the source of much of the information behind the Nokia Normandy phone and this week he posted up this interesting note:

Project Normandy = Nokia X

— @evleaks (@evleaks) January 23, 2014

The message states that Nokia X will in fact be the name that the company uses when the Android phone is released (if it ever does hit shelves). There has been a ton of speculation that the phone will still go on sale even though Nokia is due to sell its Devices and Services division to Microsoft by the end of the first quarter of 2014. Naturally, Nokia has been silent about the Normandy-Nokia X rumors. The company did announce this week it will be holding a press event at the Mobile World Congress trade show on Feb. 24th, so perhaps it is saving its announcement for that conference.
