Nook eReaders to expand to the UK in October

Barnes and Noble will finally be taking the company"s Nook eReaders outside the US this fall. The bookseller announced today that it would launch a new website sometime in mid-October that will begin to sell the products in the UK.

The press release stated that the first products that it sell in the UK market are the Nook Simple Touch and Nook Simple Touch with GlowLight. Barnes and Noble will also offer UK residents their own online store with millions of books, magazines and newspapers to purchase and download. Pricing for the two eReaders has yet to be announced.

Today"s reveal did not mention anything about a possible launch of the Android-powered Nook Color or Nook Tablet devices in the UK. Barnes and Noble recently cut the prices of its Nook tablet products in the US, most likely due to competition with Google"s Nexus 7 tablet.

We are still awaiting word about the future plans of Barnes and Noble to spin off its Nook business into a separate stand alone company, in collaboration with Microsoft. The two companies announced the partnership in April, along with word that a Nook app would be made specifically for Microsoft"s Windows 8 OS.
