Norton Subscription Services short-lived

Thanks Degger of Warp2search for sending me notice of this run in he had with Norton. I edited it a bit from the original article, link included below.

I just tried to renew my Norton Subscription Services for Norton Internet Security and Norton Anti-Virus and to my dismay I was told that the products that I bought 2 years ago are now obsolete and I should buy Norton Internet Security 2003 which includes Norton Anti-Virus 2003 because the person on the phone tells me that the latest viruses can attack your PC and disable it unless I have their 2003 products?

From the looks of the website my product is obsolete after all and so are the following products:

  • Norton AntiVirus 2001 Professional Edition
  • Norton AntiVirus 2001 for Windows 95/98/NT/2000/ME
  • Norton AntiVirus 2000 for Windows 95/98/NT/2000

  • Norton Internet Security 2001 Family Edition 3.0
  • Norton Internet Security 2001 3.0
  • Norton Internet Security 2001 Family Edition 2.5
  • Norton Internet Security 2001 2.5
  • Norton Internet Security 2000 - Family Edition 2.0
  • Norton Internet Security 2000 2.0
  • Norton Internet Security 2000
  • Norton Personal Firewall 2001 3.0
  • Norton Personal Firewall 2001 2.5 for Windows 95/98/Me/NT/2000
  • Norton Personal Firewall 2000 2.x
  • Norton SystemWorks 2001 4.0 Standard Edition
  • Norton SystemWorks 2001 4.0 Professional Edition
  • Norton SystemWorks 2000
and when I asked to speak to a supervisor he put the phone down on me!

This sort of misinformation from telephone representatives is wrong and the products listed above have a very short lifespan. Please comment if you have had similar problems.
