nubia"s Red Magic 3 released earlier this year made a splash by being the only smartphone to incorporate a cooling fan right into the hardware. We reviewed the device and came away impressed with it, despite some minor flaws. Now, nubia has announced an official release date for its successor.
As seen on the Red Magic website, the company is now running a contest for fans to participate in, which will allow them to win prizes, including the chance to get the upcoming phone. Among the details on that page, you can see that the phone is set to be released on October 16, which is just a couple of days after nubia"s own Z20 is released.
nubia"s Red Magic Twitter profile has been teasing the device for some time now, and the color options have been revealed over the past couple of weeks. In addition to the Eclipse Black color, which is similar to what we saw on the Red Magic 3, there will be a new Mecha Silver option. A Cyber Shade variant, featuring a red and blue gradient, will be the color choice for the higher-end 12GB+256GB model.
In terms of specs, the phone is similar to the original, but it swaps out the Snapdragon 855 chipset for the 855+, and it upgrades the storage from UFS 2.1 to UFS 3.0. The battery is still a massive 5,000mAh unit, and there"s still only a single camera on the back, which is likely the same 48MP sensor as on the Red Magic 3. The design is mostly the same as well, though the air intake cutout has a slightly different shape.
The website only contains the release date for the phone, and there"s no word yet on pricing. It shouldn"t stray too far from the Red Magic 3, though.
