We have seen post-apocalyptic games in the past, but we can"t recall a game that takes that premise and then also adds in an alternate history theme in the mix. That"s what publisher 1C Company announced today with Nuclear Union.
The game takes place in the year 2012, but in this alternate timeline, the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 didn"t end as well as it did in our reality. The US and the Soviet Union decided to engage in a nuclear war that devastated almost the entire planet. Despite the war, the Soviet Union managed to survive, although in a greatly altered form in underground bunker cities.
The game will feature a lead character who emerges from the bunkers in their version of 2012 to see what happened after the bombs fell. Yes, the premise sounds a awful lot like Fallout 3 or Metro: 2033 but the game might use the alternate history setting to some advantage.
The game is being developed by Best Way, who is best known for creating the Men of War WWII RTS series. You can check out a trailer for the game above this post. Nuclear Union is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2013.
