NVIDIA"s lower priced 7xxx series card, the 7800GT, is now available for purchase on major internet distributors and retail outlets. Reference models are clocked at 400MHz core speed and 1GHz effective on the memory with 20 pixel pipelines, seven vertex shaders, and the entire array of Geforce 7 series features such as Shader Model 3.0. Whether or not the card can be "unlocked" to a full 7800GTX is not clear as this point. With an MSRP current set at $449, the introduction of the 7800GT has driven the MSRP of the Geforce 6800 and 6800GT down to $199 and $299 respectively, which is good news for gamers looking to snap up a powerful card on a budget.
