Bigger is better. That seems to be the theme at CES this week, with Samsung announcing plans for a 146-inch display, the largest ever. With this in mind, Nvidia too is making waves this week, with the announcement of its Big Format Gaming Displays (BFGD).
The idea here is to take large screen displays up to 65-inches with a 4K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR support - specs you"d find on some of the top-tier TVs available right now - and make them more suitable for gaming. Nvidia"s G-Sync technology will be built into the displays toward that end, ensuring a screen tear-free experience for gamers. Also included is Nvidia"s Android-powered Shield streaming platform.
BFGDs will also sport full direct-array backlights, 1,000-nit peak luminance, and a DCI-P3 color gamut.
The company"s head of marketing, Matt Wuebbling, had this to say about its new initiative:
"PC gamers expect high performance and instant response times, but, until now, they’ve been largely limited to traditional desktop displays. BFGDs change that. With NVIDIA’s latest technology built into these new displays, PC gamers can now experience their favorite titles in all the low-latency glory they deserve.”
The displays will be available for purchase in the summer, with Acer, Asus, and HP expected to reveal their take on the BFGD this week. Pricing is currently unavailable, though given the tantalising union of specs on display, they"re not going to be cheap.
