In preparation for the upcoming Windows 10 May 2019 Update, last week Nvidia released its Game Ready WHQL-certified 430.39 drivers. It also introduced support for the recently-released GTX 1650 as well as the notebook variant of GTX 1660Ti. Suffice to say, that version was intended to be a recommended update for many users. Unfortunately, it also introduced a major bug causing spikes of high CPU usage, as reported by 33 pages worth of posts on the relevant GeForce forums thread.
Nvidia today released its GeForce 430.53 hotfix beta drivers fixing that bug, along with a few others. Here’s everything that this hotfix addresses:
- Fixes higher CPU usage by NVDisplay.Container.exe introduced in 430.39 driver
- 3DMark Time Spy: Flickering observed when benchmark is launched
- BeamNG: Application crashes when game is launched
- Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Freezes when launched in SLI mode
- Desktop flickers when videos are played back on a secondary monitor
It’s to be noted, however, that this isn’t a WHQL release and therefore is not recommended for all users; as put by Nvidia:
They are run through a much abbreviated QA process. The sole reason they exist is to get fixes out to you more quickly. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you are willing to try these out.
Interestingly, the spikes of high CPU usage appear to have been caused by an update made to the telemetry collection. As discovered by users, deleting certain files fixes that issue with the WHQL-certified 430.39 version, without installing the hotfix.
There is no list of known issues available as this is a beta release. If you encounter a bug and wish to report it, you can do so via this form and via this thread on the GeForce forums. The 430.53 hotfix beta drivers can be downloaded via the links down below.
