The Nvidia Shield Tablet has been out on the market for quite some time, but it is still one of the best options when it comes to gaming, offering its robust Tegra K1 SoC. While it might have aged a bit, the device has not been forgotten, as it has just received an update to Android 7.0 Nougat.
The Shield Tablet was originally released in July 2014 and was reintroduced a year later as the Shield Tablet K1 and received a hefty price drop of $100. While the hardware remains the same after all these years, Android 7.0 Nougat should bring some improvements to the tablet"s UI like multi-window support, smarter notifications and possibly improve its battery life with Doze implementation. The update comes as a bit of surprise, considering that only 1.2% of Android devices are running Android 7.0 / 7.1.
With this new update, the Shield Tablet K1 will join the Shield TV, that also received an update to Android 7.0 last month. The Shield TV offers a bit more power under the hood and is Nvidia"s home console with 4K support.
