It"s not going too well for O2 this week in terms of the iPhone. Earlier reports this week suggest O2 has been experiencing problems with their data network failing, in some cases for hours. It seems that O2 may not be providing the level of service their iPhone customers want.
News gets a little worse for O2 though. In an article published on Wired Magazine"s website yesterday, rumours sparked regarding the possibility that O2 may be losing it"s exclusive contract on the iPhone.
According to Wired"s source, MobileEntertainment, they claim to have seen proof that O2 could lose its exclusive rights to the iPhone.
Originally O2 trumped other hopefuls in 2007 to become the sole carrier for the device in the UK, however it was widely believed that the contract ends before 2012.
O2 did not comment in depth at all when asked about the situation: "All I can say is that O2 has a multi-year exclusive on iPhone - and that this remains in place." O2 Spokesperson.
The report suggests that O2 may retain the sole rights for the iPhone 3G S.
However, The Register is reporting that T-Mobile UK is already selling dedicated T-Mobile supported iPhones to select customers.
"Apple"s 3G handset won"t be available to just any T-Mobile customer - only high spenders who threaten to leave need apply, and only 150 of those a week will be lucky enough to get their hands on an officially-supported T-Mobile iPhone, though even that risks annoying Apple and will certainly have O2 up in arms."
