Better late that never, right? That"s the case today, as Microsoft is touting that the Obama campaign used Lync as their communication tool to help win the 2012 presidential election. This announcement is quite peculiar for several reasons; it aligns Microsoft with a political party, which isn"t entirely uncommon these days and is not an endorsement, but the information is also a few months old.
Sure, it"s great for Microsoft to be able to align with the winner and say that it helped Obama to the White House, but at the same time, we do wonder what the Romney campaign team was using to communicate. Anyway, the real reason that Microsoft is touting Lync here is not because of how it was used by the Obama team but that it was able to handle the volume of calls that the team received and made during the presidential campaign.
During the peak of the campaign, Lync was able to handle hundreds of thousands of calls per day which was a robust test for the VoIP platform that is the critical backbone for many corporations around the world. So there you have it: Lync, Obama and Microsoft, wining campaigns with VoIP.
