Oculus launched its Rift virtual reality headset back in March, and after some initial shipping delays, the company said last month that it had completed all deliveries to those who pre-ordered it.
Today, Oculus announced the upcoming retail launch of the Rift in several major markets, greatly expanding availability of the device, and access to those who want to be able to try it out before deciding whether or not to buy one.
From September 20, the Rift will be available to buy from (and, in some cases, try at) stores across Europe and in Canada:
- UK: Amazon.co.uk, John Lewis, Curry’s PCWorld, GAME Digital Plc, and the London department store Harrods.
- France: Amazon.fr and FNAC.
- Germany: Amazon.de, MediaMarkt, and Saturn.
- Canada: Best Buy and Microsoft Store Online.
Pre-orders are now open at these retailers; pricing in Europe is set at £549 GBP / €699 EUR. Over the next few months, Rift will become available to demo in "more than 600 retail locations across the US, Canada and Europe", with a range of experiences and films to try out.
