There have been various solutions in the past to get cheap VR into the hands of consumers. Up until now, the best option was utilizing one"s smartphone and pairing it with an affordable headset housing. While this is an affordable option, it wasn"t always the most convenient. In order to solve this problem, the Oculus Go was announced late last year and does not require a PC or smartphone, and instead functions as a stand-alone unit. The Oculus Go is now finally available for purchase.
As far as specifications, the Oculus Go will have:
- 2560 x 1440 WQHD fast-switch 5.5-inch LCD display at 538ppi
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor
- 32GB or 64GB of internal storage
- 2 to 2 1/2 hours of battery life on a single charge
The VR headset will have built-in spatial audio and also an integrated microphone. As far as pricing goes, it will retail for $199 for the 32GB variant, while the 64GB model will be priced at $249. If you want to purchase the headset, you can now head to the Oculus web store.
