Oculus Rift gets a permanent price cut down to $349

October of 2017 saw Oculus cut the price of its Rift VR headset permanently to $399. Now, it’s getting another permanent price cut, bringing its price down to $349.

The $349 price tag makes it cheaper than Samsung’s Odyssey+ VR headset, and substantially boosts its presence against the Windows Mixed Reality headsets that are mostly priced around this range. It also gives it a further advantage over HTC’s Vive which usually sells for $499.

HTC, however, has been busy releasing newer HMDs since the Vive’s original launch; there’s the Vive Pro for $799, and just yesterday at CES the company announced Vive Pro Eye which features precision eye tracking, but doesn’t have a price just yet.

Oculus is rumored to be working on a ‘minor’ upgrade to the Rift, named Rift S, with plans to release in 2019. If true, this could be the last price cut the Rift receives before being replaced.

Those who are interested can purchase the Rift on Amazon or their local retailer. Oculus says that the price is dropping “across all countries where we currently sell.”
