Office 365 MDM capabilities now available to all

The mobile device management capabilities that were announced by Microsoft at TechEd Europe are now generally available for Office 365 customers.

Mobile device management has been a key area of interest for Microsoft and the company has been offering on-premise solutions that provide this functionality for quite some time. At last year"s TechEd Europe, Microsoft announced that it would take MDM to the cloud with Office 365.

Now, just over four months since the announcement, Microsoft has made MDM features available to all Office 365 customers for free. The features powered by Windows Intune allow administrators to protect critical data by allowing them to provide conditional access, manage devices remotely and selectively wipe data from connected devices.

Office 365 MDM is compatible with iOS, Android and Windows Phone devices, while customers who want to manage a wider variety of smartphones and tablets with more features can opt for Microsoft Intune using the Enterprise Mobility Suite.

Microsoft expects the rollout of the MDM features to be complete within the next 4-6 weeks for all commercial subscriptions that include Business, Enterprise, EDU and Government plans.
