It has been a pretty crappy month and a half for Playstation users. The Playstation Network online service was the subject of a cyber attack on April 20 that caused Sony to shut down the network for nearly a month in some areas and over a month in other parts of the world. Indeed South Korea and Hong Kong still don"t have access to the Playstation Network and the Playstation Store, where players download and/or purchase games, demos and other items, is still down with no word on when it will be restored.
As Sony prepares for its pre-E3 press conference one week from today, the company has started to announce some good news for its owners. The official Playstation blog site has revealed that Sony will release official wireless headphones for the PS3 console starting in September. The headphones, which will be priced at $99.99, will have support for 7.1 virtual surround sound. PS3 games like Killzone 2 and Gran Turismo have been designed for surround sound systems.
The headphones will also have a retractable microphone for online in-game chat and easy-to-use volume controls. It will also have on-screen alerts for things like battery status and more. The headphones come with a USB cord to connect and charge the wireless headset to the PS3 console.
Of course this is just the first of the official announcement we can expect from Sony as we head into E3 next week. Sony is expected to reveal more details about its NGP portable console as well as a number of game announcements.
