Microsoft is expected to announce new devices at its October 6 event, which possibly includes a Surface Pro 4, Windows 10 Mobile Lumia flagshipss and the successor to Microsoft"s wearable, the Band. Some alleged renders of the latter leaked online a couple of days ago, but up until now, there had been no official confirmation from Microsoft. Now, it appears that a support link for the Microsoft Band 2 appeared on the company"s page, only to vanish soon afterwards.
WinSuperSite"s Richard Hay reports that he was notified of a link on Microsoft"s Band support page which stated "Microsoft Band 2 features and functions". This link was available in the "related topics" tab on the support page as can be seen below.
However, the heading has now disappeared, the support link to the upcoming wearable has also been pulled and the purported page now gives a 404 error.
Best Buy has also slashed the price of the original Band to $100, which is also a decent indicator of the upcoming launch of its successor.
If the previously leaked renders are to be believed, the device will reportedly feature a curved display. The design is more or less similar to the original Band but it appears to offer a more premium look with a metallic finish front panel.
The wearable has reportedly been under internal testing for months and will target new audiences as well at Microsoft"s October 6 event. Specifications of the device are still unknown, although the fitness tracker is expected to work on Windows Phone, Android and iOS devices.
Update: While this could certainly be official, the alleged link"s format does not adhere to Microsoft"s previous product support pages and does raise questions. Naturally, we will have to wait until the Band 2 is actually released to answer these questions regarding its legitimacy.
