In mid-November, Samsung flung open the doors to its One UI beta program for Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones in South Korea, and the United States. The new user experience incorporates Android 9.0 Pie under the covers, with one of the main features of the interface aiming to address challenges with one-handed usage and gradually increasing screen sizes. Later, the Galaxy Note9 would also see a beta of its own get underway but only for unlocked handsets in the US.
While Galaxy S9 and S9+ owners in India have been able to signup for the One UI beta since last month, the software has only now just begun to arrive on these handsets in the region. According to reports, the version of software currently being deployed seems to be the third beta version released to those in the US, and incorporates the latest December 2018 security patch for Android released last week. The firmware version numbers to keep an eye out for are G960FXXU2ZRL5 for the Galaxy S9 and G965FXXU2ZRL5 for the Galaxy S9+.
If you"re already enrolled in the beta program, you can hop into Settings > Software Update > Download Updates Manually to trigger the update process. Otherwise, if you"ve yet to register, you can sign up via the Samsung+ app.
Finally, as a reminder, the update is quite hefty, weighing in at 1.8GB so you may need to be mindful of downloading over cellular connections. You"ll also want to make sure your phone has sufficient charge before initiating the update. However, be warned, as the update is a one-way trip, necessitating a full wipe of the device to get back to Oreo, so make sure to backup your data.
