OneNote for Windows 10 now provides the ability to edit and save embedded files

Earlier this year, custom tags were introduced to OneNote for Windows 10 and Mac. Then, just last month, it was revealed that the app would soon be getting a dark theme. Today, Microsoft EDU Product Manager, Mike Tholfsen, has announced that the ability to edit multiple embedded files in the app without having to reinsert them has now been brought to Office Insiders.

Choosing the "File" option from the menu that appears upon right-clicking an embedded file provides various options to edit said file, as can be observed in the image above. Although these options were also previously available, the difference now is that users can save any changes made efficiently from within the app, without having to reinsert the file in their notes, as was previously the case.

Making any change before this update in an attached Word file, for example, would require OneNote users to externally save a different copy of it, followed by the reinsertion process. The new feature provides the opportunity to immensely reduce the time required to edit attached files, especially for users who have multiple files embedded in a single OneNote "Page".

The ability to internally edit embedded files is currently being rolled out to Office Insiders "and beyond". Other channels will probably receive the feature in the coming months. You can download the updated version of OneNote for Windows 10 here.
