Microsoft today updated its OneNote UWP app for Windows Insiders that are on the Slow ring. It"s the exact same update that was offered to Fast ring Insiders just yesterday, so presumably, it"s a stable build.
The version number should be 17.7830.10001. Here"s what"s new:
Reorder your notebooks
Sort your notebooks however you like. Simply click and drag a notebook to reorder it in the list.Password protection
Add a password to a section to keep your notes safe from prying eyes.Create diagrams or flow charts
Use the Shapes gallery to insert perfect circles, squares, arrows and more.Save images and files
Save your favorite picture or an important file outside of OneNote. Just right-click and save it to a location you specify.New page placement
Quickly add a new page below the currently selected one, rather than at the bottom of the page list.Change the layer order
Put tables, note containers, pictures, and shapes into your notes and then arrange which are in front and which are behind.Paragraph handles
Grab the paragraph handles and reorder or collapse text on the page.New bullet styles
Tired of plain old bullets? Spice up your notes with dashes, arrows, diamonds, and more.
There"s also a note at the bottom that"s in small print, and it"s a known issue:
Users of the most current update to OneNote for Windows 10 may encounter a crash when launching the app if they also have Malwarebytes 3.0 installed and OneNoteIm.exe has been added as an application to Shield for Malwarebytes. We will be addressing this issue as soon as possible.
Interestingly, Microsoft actually compared OneNote for Windows 10 to OneNote 2016, which is the desktop app that"s part of the full Office suite. The company said that the apps "are very similar, but there are a few key differences", going on to say that the OneNote UWP app is regularly updated with new features, implying that the desktop app is not.
To download OneNote or update your existing app, you can find it in the Windows Store here.
