In two weeks time, OnePlus will be officially revealing its next handset, the OnePlus 5. While the excitement for its latest handset swells, there is now bad news that the firm will not be updating its older OnePlus 2 like it originally promised.
It was only a couple months ago that we reported on the fact that the company was blatantly ignoring the cries of its consumers, and now we know why. In an odd twist, OnePlus states that “customer service has been telling customers this for a little while” and that it "isn’t new and we think people were aware of it”. As to why the update will never arrive, it appears that when the OnePlus 2 was built, the company "didn"t have the software infrastructure team in place" that it does now.
This will undoubtedly enrage the customers that were waiting for the update. Luckily, there is a small silver lining to all of this, as third party support for the handset is strong, and options are available to get Android Nougat.
The OnePlus 5 is set to officially unveiled on June 20. The company will hold several events across the world to celebrate the launch.
