OnePlus 6 is now getting a new Android P Developer Preview

Android P is the first version of Android which users can test on devices other than Google"s Pixel phones. That includes the OnePlus 6, which is today getting a new preview build of the next version of Android.

OnePlus is referring to the update as Developer Preview 3, but this is probably the same version as the one released by Google earlier this month, which is its fourth developer preview. The first developer preview for Android P was exclusive to Pixel phones, which helps explain the difference in numbers.

The update brings a number of fixes and improvements, including improved camera quality, better system stability, and the July security patch for Android. Here"s the full changelog provided by OnePlus:

System

  • Updated Android security patch to 2018.7
  • Updated Google Mobile Services
  • Improved system stability
  • Fixed issue with hotspot functionality

Camera

  • Improved image quality
  • Fixed issue with watermark option functionality

Third-Party Apps

  • Improved camera functionality with third-party apps
  • Fixed compatibility issues with certain third-party apps

Of course, as with any preview build, there are also issues to be aware of, though OnePlus isn"t especially specific as to what they are:

System

  • System stability and power consumption issues

Bluetooth

  • Compatibility issues with Bluetooth connectivity

Third-Party Apps

  • Some apps may not function as expected when running on this Developer preview release

If you own a OnePlus 6 and you"d like to try out Android P, you can download and install the latest developer preview by following these instructions. Be wary that there might also be issues not mentioned in the official notes. For instance, some users in the forums have reported being unable to use the stock dialer app.

We"re inching closer to an official rollout of Android P, as Google"s fourth developer preview is considered a release candidate. Stay tuned to Neowin to find out when that happens.
