OnePlus announces the OnePlus 7 Pro with a 90Hz display, and no notch

OnePlus is holding simultaneous events around the world today, where it"s announcing its new 7 Series of handsets. While some regions are getting a OnePlus 7, the flagship model is the OnePlus 7 Pro.

Promising a fast and smooth experience, the key feature of this device is a 90Hz display; OnePlus is calling it Fluid AMOLED. The increased refresh rate will result in a smoother experience, and it can also give you an edge in gaming. OnePlus also bumped up the resolution to 1440p, something that it"s been holding back on doing. It"s 6.62 inches (516ppi) at 19.5:9, and it supports HDR10+.

The screen still has a fingerprint in it, and OnePlus promises that it"s even faster. There"s also a new feature called Horizon Light, which shows a blue ring around the display when it"s asleep. But most notably, there"s no notch.

That"s because the phone has a pop-up camera for selfies. The 16MP sensor takes just 0.53 seconds to pop up. The company says that it"s durable as well, showing a video where a string was tied from the pop-up camera to a 50-pound weight. Moreover, it"s tested for being opened 300,000 times.

The rear camera system includes three lenses for the first time, offering a standard lens, a zoom lens, and a wide-angle lens. The main sensor is a Sony IMX586, which is a 48MP 1/2-inch, f/1.6 aperture sensor. The zoom lens is 8MP with an f/2.4 aperture for a 3x optical zoom. Like the main sensor, it has optical image stabilization. The wide-angle lens is 16MP with an f/2.2 aperture. OnePlus says that it has a new hybrid autofocus system, automatically choosing between contrast autofocus, phase detect autofocus, and laser focus.

Just as you"d expect, it includes Qualcomm"s Snapdragon 855 chipset, and it comes with up to 12GB RAM. OnePlus says there"s a new feature called RAM Boost, which gives you better performance and lets you run up to 64 apps in the background. Moreover, it"s the first phone to use UFS 3.0 storage, which is 79% faster than UFS 2.1.

All of that is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. The company says that you only need to charge for about 20 minutes to get to 50% with Warp Charge 3.0. It also has dual speakers that support Dolby Atmos, so combined with the Fluid AMOLED display, this phone should provide a pretty immersive experience.

It comes in Nebula Blue, Mirror Gray, and next month it will be coming in Almond. It will cost $669 for 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, $699 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, and $749 for 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. It will go on sale this Friday from T-Mobile and Oneplus.com; however, if you"re in New York today, you can head over to the T-Mobile signature store in midtown to buy one.
