OnePlus CEO teases upcoming smartphone, says it will bring a "new era of fast and smooth"

We don"t usually hear about OnePlus devices until closer to the middle of the year, but this time around the company made an appearance at the Qualcomm Snapdragon Tech Summit, where it announced it would have one of the world"s first smartphones with a Snapdragon 855. Fast-forward to today, and the CEO of OnePlus, Pete Lau, has now publicly teased the upcoming device for the first time on Twitter.

Lau"s tweet isn"t especially specific, and it doesn"t even provide an official name for the smartphone, which is expected to be the OnePlus 7. The focus, as it was last year, seems to be on performance, especially on smoothness, which Lau claims is a bigger challenge than simply being fast.

Excited to share the next product from OnePlus will unleash a new era of Fast and Smooth. Especially Smooth! Smooth is more challenging than Fast - a true test of hardware and software.

Beyond the 5G capabilities and this renewed focus on "fast and smooth", not much is really known about the purported OnePlus 7. A leak from earlier this year suggested that it may come with a sliding mechanism for the camera, but a more recent report indicates that there may be two variants of the phone, with the base model looking more like the current OnePlus 6T. All of that remains unconfirmed, so we"ll have to wait to hear from OnePlus directly.
