OnePlus is preparing to launch its new flagship-class handset, the 5, and is already winding down sales of its latest device, the 3T. Last week, the company promised that it would deliver "more software updates" to both the 3T, and its predecessor, the 3.
Today, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau tweeted that owners of both the 3 and 3T can look forward to receiving an upgrade to the next major Android version, currently known as Android O.
That will reassure many owners of both devices, but it"s worth remembering that OnePlus previously broke a similar commitment to its customers, and then completely ignored their complaints. In June 2016, a company representative promised that the OnePlus 2 "will get the N update", which later became known as Android 7.0 Nougat.
A year later - and nine months after Google released Android 7.0 - OnePlus still hasn"t upgraded the 2 to Nougat, and its continued silence on the subject has frustrated and angered owners of that device. Numerous customers replied to Lau"s tweet today, to ask what happened to the Nougat update for the OnePlus 2, but at time of writing, he had not responded to any of them.
Google plans to release Android O in the third quarter of this year.
